*NEW* Ayrshire Castles and Coast - Burns Country 16-18 March 2018 - £899 PP
Ayrshire, on the West coast of Scotland, is little known by photographers, despite boasting an incredible coastline that is dotted by ancient castles along its length and marvelous views to the adjacent islands.
We will drive much of the extent of this coastline, photographing several of the Castles that are nearby as part of our exploration. The ruins of Dunure Castle, originating from the 15th century and once visited by Mary Queen of Scots, is an outstanding coastal photography location. The castle sits atop a rocky promontory, and the harbour and coastline here are also very photogenic. We will also visit the Castles at nearby Greenan and further north at Portencross as well as photographing the Isles of Arran, Cumbrae and Ailsa Craig from the local beaches. Other coastal locations include the iconic Lighthouse at Turnberry and the old pier at Portencross.
All of the locations are relatively close together, affording us time to visit Alloway (near Ayr) to wander round, perhaps visit the birthplace of Robert Burns, and photograph “Brig O Doon”!
At this time of year the sunlight remains low so shooting is possible throughout the day, and the West coast location means that sunsets can be truly spectacular. This is a great opportunity to explore somewhere new and make images that few will have seen before, in an area that has great hospitality.
