Autumn Colours in the Scottish Highlands

26-31st October 2020 £1499 per person

Autumn is without doubt one of the highlights of the photographic year. The gradual onset of yellows, oranges and reds in the natural world are a delight, and what better location to experience this spectacle than the Scottish highlands? Sunlit autumnal trees, beautiful reflections in still Lochs, and even ethereal early morning mist may well be encountered on this workshop. Scotland is without doubt one of the best places in the world to experience autumn colours, and we will be there as Autumn reaches its peak.

This tour will be based around Inverness, and from there we will explore some of the nearby Glens, Lochs and forests. Glen Affric is close to Inverness and is famed for its autumnal colour. We will spend some time there, exploring and photographing the glorious colours on offer. We will also have time to visit some smaller forest areas south of Inverness that are home to large expanses of birch. This area is absolutely spectacular in autumn, when the foliage of the birch takes on a bright yellow that contrasts beautifully with its pale bark. We will also explore West of Inverness towards Torridon, taking in some of the autumn colours on the banks of the lochs in this area.

The emphasis on this tour will be on capturing a variety of stunning compositions in all kinds of weather conditions and locations. We will keep our itinerary flexible to respond to prevailing weather conditions and where autumn colours are at their best. This could involve us travelling further south into Perthshire, for example, where autumn colours can be exceptional.

It is not expected that any of the walks on this workshop will be particularly strenuous, although a reasonable level of fitness is required. Good waterproof walking boots suitable for boggy terrain will be essential. A waterproof jacket, layers, and walking trousers will also be needed to cope with changeable and sometimes dramatic weather conditions.

This tour will be led by Mark McColl in association with Light and Land - booking can be made here Light and Land...
